Throughout my life I’ve been a competitive athlete. Because of sports, I learned about healthy eating to fuel the body. In college I played on the varsity lacrosse team. Our daily workouts were so intense it allowed me to eat pretty much whatever I chose. Instead of sticking to a balanced, nutritional diet, I picked whatever I was in the mood for at the time. And then I graduated from school.

I continued eating as I had before and kept up the workout routine but not to the same degree. Two herniated discs in my lower back ruled out running and jumping. And so the weight began to quickly pile on. In five years, I put on fifty pounds. I tried dieting and exercising more but didn’t stick with anything for very long. For every five to ten pounds I lost, I’d end up putting on fifteen.

By this time, I was working as a nanny for two young boys. With all the weight gain I struggled playing around with them on the floor and avoided chasing them around in the yard.
